The Cleveland Way has been diverted to take walkers up to the historic Lady Chapel near Osmotherley. This place of peace and tranquillity, associated with Mount Grace Priory, was first built back in the 15th Century on the site of a holy spring. It has been a place of pilgrimage ever since and as such it is a wonderful addition to the Cleveland Way portfolio for walkers engaged in their own pilgrimage along the trail. The new route was provided through the support of the landowner whose assistance is greatly appreciated. It was opened by the Bishop Terry, Bishop of Middlesbrough on August 13 2021.
The former route still remains, allowing walkers to enjoy a circular walk. The details of the change can be seen on the Diversion section of the Cleveland Way map.
