The Best Way to Discover Hadrian’s Wall Country
The Hadrian’s Wall Country Bus AD122 offers a convenient and relaxing seasonal service to explore the World Heritage Site. Using the bus and other linking bus and train services, you can travel between towns, villages and Roman Sites along the Wall from Bowness-on-Solway to Wallsend. There’s something for everyone whether your interests lie in the Romans, Reivers, castles, wildlife or just enjoying the view.
It’s Better by Bus
Using the bus to get around makes so much sense and it’s more sustainable. You see more than you could in a car, and fewer cars in the World Heritage Site is better for everyone’s enjoyment of this dramatic and varied landscape.
Your guide to the Guides
Open Book Visitor Guiding Tour Guides will be available on the dates shown. Refer to timetable for bus times.
- Easter Friday 2nd April to Monday 5th April
- Sunday 30th May to Sunday 6th June
- Daily from Sunday 18th July to Tuesday 31st August
Walking
Use the bus to plan your walk along the Hadrian’s Wall Path National Trail and a network of paths gives a choice of linear and circular walks from bus stops along the route. There is something for everyone from the estuary and salt marshes of the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty teeming with bird life to the wild Whin Sill crags (with some of the best-preserved sections of the Wall) and loughs of Northumberland National Park.
Pedal Power by Bus
Hadrian’s Wall Country is great for cycling offering the Hadrian’s Cycleway (NCN route 72) that runs the length of the World Heritage Site and numerous other do-in-a-day rides (half day rides for the less energetic) exploring quiet roads and tracks. Many of these connect with the Bus. A limited number of cycles can be carried if booked in advance for free through the Hadrian’s Wall Information Line on 01434 322002 no later than 3.00pm prior to the day of travel. Some buses have dedicated cycle carriers.
