Drovers Retreat is a haven of peace in the heart of the Welsh Borders. A sympathetically converted single-story stome barn, it offers 4* accommodation for up to four adults (plus an additional sofa bed if needed). There is a games barn attached with pool, table football and darts.The secluded accommodation offers great privacy, and is an exclellent centre for stunning walks or cycle rides either straight from the doorstep or a short distance away. Offa's Dyke Path and Visitors Centre is at the nearby market town of Knighton (10 miles), and Glyndwr's Way also passes through Knighton. Even around Drovers Retreat there are superb walks in the Radnor Forest (which is 'forest' in its old meaning of a wild place).We have compiled a guide to a range of local walks  - available at the property where a well used local OS map can be borrowed. Carolyn can advise routes with boots not car. To plan ahead you should equip yourself with OS 'Explorer' no 200 which includes Drovers Retreat and also covers the Elan Valley reservoir area. For Knighton, Presteigne and Kington choose OS 'Explorer' 201. (Why is it that wherever we choose to stay we are on the map edge or fold!)

If you choose to arrive by train, our nearest station is Caersws (4.6 miles) with direct services from Birmingham, Shrewsbury, Aberystwyth & Pwllheli. Connections from London, Manchester, Edinburgh & Glasgow. The station is approximately 25 minute cycle ride, or ask us and we'll try & collect you. We have dark skies and on a clear night you'll have a great view of the stars from your raised deck. Access: the lodge is raised and on a single level. A short concrete path leads from the parking area to 4 steps that take you to a raised deck and the front door. The internal doors are narrow and may not be suitable for wheelchair users. Pets: Although we do not allow pets at present, we can introduce you to our neighbour who has pet friendly accommodation. Smoking is not permitted. We do not have facilities for BBQs at the present time. Please do not use disposable BBQs.

Ideal for walking Mid Wales, Rose Cottage is peaceful and relaxing, set in a wildlife haven on a site of Special Scientific Interest and opposite a nature reserve. Close to Glyndwr's Way and the Offa's Dyke path it sits overlooking stunning countryside and the river Teme. A dedicated glazed garden room, designed to observe the copious wildlife, is warm winter and summer and has french windows opening out on to the balcony; as well as a patio and garden. Rose Cottage is snug with both central heating and a wood burning stove. It sleeps 4 in one twin and one double room, (cot available if required) There is also a lounge and very well equipped kitchen with all modern appliances. The bathroom has both shower and bath. Linen and basic food items provided, (the owners will provide groceries to order) Secure shed for bikes attached to cottage.Excellent local pub food and a local shop can all be found within 2 miles of the cottage. Local tourist information, maps and walks as well as planned days out can be found in the cottage. Books, games, TV with DVD and VHS as well as WiFi are available.

Cwmbiga is half a mile from the Glyndwr's Way: between Llanidloes and Dylife.   If you would like to walk beyond Cwmbiga in order to shorten the walk to Machynlleth the day after you stay with us, we will happly pick you up from / return you to Dylife.  We have an information sheet which explains all: please contact us for a copy.We have two 4* self-catering cottages, each of which sleep 7. We offer a small party discount of 20% for groups of 1-4 people. The price includes homemade cake and fresh eggs from our chickens! Each cottage has a washing machine and we have a drying room for wet kit. We also offer packed lunches and pre-prepared frozen evening meals made in our farmhouse if you're too tired to cook! We're also licenced so can provide a variety of local beers and ciders, as well as wine.We're happy to arrange baggage transfer and other services for walkers. AA 4 star Cefnsuran accommodation in our secluded farm valley right on the national trail of Glyndwr’s Way close to Offas Dyke in Knighton. We have 2 lodges with hot tubs & a cosy stone cottage with log fire. Plus a large gamesroom with full size snooker table, table tennis, darts board, table top football & pool table. All the accommodation sleep 4, plus sky, dvd, separate stereo system and a fully equip kitchen with seperate fridge and freezer. All bedding, towels, electric and heating are included. Cefn-nant lodge is the most private lodge, with a secluded hot tub 100m from the nearest lodge. Just a short stroll from the games room. Suran-y-coed lodge with great views of the open hills and listen to the birds sing. Plus the warm bubbles of your own private hot tub to relax in. The Byre is a retro styled cottage, converted from the old cow shed. Sitting in the glorious Welsh countryside with easy access to Snowdonia, Glyndwrs way, Offers Dyke and Lake Vyrnwy. Rural but not isolated pub and shop are 1/2 mile away. The stars at night are amazing. The Brye has a mezzanine bedroom, large shower room, fully equipped kitchen open to the living room diner. Small but perfectly formed. Dog friendly (2 medium dogs max – unless by agreement) and suitable for 2 adults and baby. With a 70s vibe, the Byre is cosy and yet light. Great views through the main window to feast your eyes upon whilst eating. Sky TV for those nights in, great WiFi in case you need to work. Guests have full sole access to the whole cottage and the front patio garden (this area occasionally used for access, postman etc). Free parking on site. Shared access to the 1 acre back garden, however please keep dogs under control as we have free roaming chickens and cats and our dogs are often loose outside. Please don’t let your dog dig, pick up dog poop, and keep dogs off the furniture. The Byre is a no smoking property.

The Cwtch Cilcain has formerly been a store, joiner’s workshop and village shop. Recently renovated to a high standard, this quirky cottage is now ready to welcome guests wishing to stay in the heart of the Clwydian Range, and is only a couple of miles from the Offas Dyke Path. You’ll find all the comforts of home, including a well-equipped kitchen and luxurious bathroom, two unique double bedrooms and a generous living/dining area with a wood-burning stove. Canterbury Cottage has been furnished to a high standard with beautiful granite surface in the kitchen with all appliances such as a combi-microwave with grill and conventional oven, toaster, 2-ring cooker, a huge zip-link with mattress topper Superking bed which is separable into 2 big singles.  There is also a further large single which can be brought out from under the Superking bed, bedroom affords beds for up to 3 people.  It has solid oak wood flooring throughout.  In the lounge/ kitchen is a comfortable sofa bed.  There are 2 x Smart tvs to the lounge and the bedroom on the wall.  There is wifi available and I will help with any information not found in my manual inside the cottage.On entry, there is a lovely warm, sunny porch where coats, boots and sticks can be left.I have a tandem bike ready for use - and fun, it comes with helmets of course.I am planning a small courtyard area with seating and bbq which should be ready in early June.I do work but part-time and can happily make food: eg afternoon tea on arrival, lunch or dinner to be left in the cottage/ apartment for small extra charges. Sometimes this is impossible but if you give me notice I will do my very best to accommodate.  (I always leave milk, teacakes or some such and a few packs of cereal).I'm also happy, if not working, to help by giving lifts but again, please let me have good notice ahead of time.I want everyone who stays with me to be utterly comfortable and I did this refurb with Offas Dyke visitors in mind!I wish you a happy and comfortable stay with me.

You may not need a car for the whole of your stay.It sleeps 6 and has three bedrooms with superking ( 6 feet wide) beds which can each become a pair of 3 ft twin beds on request.Two bathrooms with both baths and showers ( lit mirors and shaving sockets, heated towel rails), a whirlpool in one of the bathrooms , a dinnerplate headed shower in the other, cosy woodburner, squishy leather suite, sheltered and fenced garden with furniture, private off road parking.It has top of the range equipment from 5 flatsceen Tvs with freeview channels including radio, Ipod docks and and Wifi to a fully fitted kitchen with all mod cons (washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, microwave, fridge, freezer and a super range cooker with extractor hood) A very full inventory including many extras ,and modern basics like double glazing , excellent insulation, and a green central heating system go without saying.The back garden is fenced and gated to be suitable for pets and children.The front garden is much larger and is unfenced to make the most of the fabulous views. Children and pets are welcome there -but should be on a lead due to the drop to the drive and to the road. Adults will enjoy sitting watching the Abbey- expecially in the late evenings when it is illuminated and the bustle of the day ends .We have a stone bench for the purpose!Our off road parking has room for three estate cars or four compact cars very tightly packed.The more usual one or two visiting cars have plenty of space! Parking is at a premium in the village so this is valuable to our guests. In winter we offer short breaks and whole weeks. In summer its mostly whole weeks. With commanding views over Monmouth, the Wye Valley and beyond, Wern Farm Cottage is a cosy, snug recluse ideally situated for all that Monmouthshire has to offer. Light, airy and welcoming, there is accommodation for 2-4 that is is flexible to your needs.Approached up a short farm track, Wern Cottage has its own private parking area. The front door leads into a light and airy double height hallway with beautiful oak beams. Downstairs there is a good sized, well laid out kitchen with everything you need for relaxed entertaining. The living room has fantastic views of the valley below with french doors opening out onto a sunny terrace. The bathroom downstairs is light and modern with loo,sink and a generously sized shower. There is also a utility room complete with washing machine and tumble dryer. Both bedrooms have zip and link beds so each can be configured to a king or a twin. Just let me know your requirements and I’ll set it up for you.  There is one bedroom downstairs and one upstairs. The bathroom upstairs is simply decorated with lovely old beams. Perfect for relaxing in the tub and enjoying your getaway.If you are bringing bikes we have a secure shed with bike racks and a hose nearby for any bike washing required.The cottage is situated 3 miles outside Monmouth on a non working farm with lovely views. There are some great walks right from the door and lots more within a short drive. We are ideally situated for lots of outdoor activities with the Forest of Dean, the Brecon Beacons and the Black mountains nearby. Monmouth is about a 5 minute drive. There are several pubs there along with a Pizza Express, the Estero Lounge, an Italian restaurant, several Indian restaurants and a Chinese restaurant. There are several other local pubs also within a 5 to 10 minute drive. The whitebrook which is a fantastic Michelin starred restaurant is only about a mile and a half away. As for shops, there is a Waitrose, a Lidl, a Co-op and a Marks and Spencer’s in Monmouth. There is also a village shop in Dingestowe which sells delicious homemade pasties ,sausages and cakes only 2miles away and a farm shop about a mile away. Most supermarkets will deliver here.Sightseeing is brilliant with Tintern Abbey and Raglan Castle and White Castle an easy drive away. Children love the butterfly zoo and maze at Symonds Yat, the steam train through the Forest of Dean, and Puzzlewood, a unique and enchanting place where programmes like Dr. Who, Merlin and The Night Garden have been filmed.There are some beautiful walks along the river Wye which is only a short drive away or if you’re feeling a bit more adventurous the Sugar Loaf, Skirrid and Penny Fan are only about a 20 minute drive away.If you are keen on biking there are lots of great places to go within 5 to 10 minutes drive and then there is Pedal Bikeaway (about 20 mins away) which is in the Forest of Dean. There are some fantastic downhill trails there and also a great family trail. You can even book biking lessons for kids there(£10 for 2hrs coaching). Bike park Wales, the first full scale bike park in the Uk is about 40 minutes away.Canoeing down the Wye River is another fantastic activity on offer near us. Drovers Retreat is a haven of peace in the heart of the Welsh Borders. A sympathetically converted single-story stome barn, it offers 4* accommodation for up to four adults (plus an additional sofa bed if needed). There is a games barn attached with pool, table football and darts.The secluded accommodation offers great privacy, and is an exclellent centre for stunning walks or cycle rides either straight from the doorstep or a short distance away. Offa's Dyke Path and Visitors Centre is at the nearby market town of Knighton (10 miles), and Glyndwr's Way also passes through Knighton. Even around Drovers Retreat there are superb walks in the Radnor Forest (which is 'forest' in its old meaning of a wild place).We have compiled a guide to a range of local walks  - available at the property where a well used local OS map can be borrowed. Carolyn can advise routes with boots not car. To plan ahead you should equip yourself with OS 'Explorer' no 200 which includes Drovers Retreat and also covers the Elan Valley reservoir area. For Knighton, Presteigne and Kington choose OS 'Explorer' 201. (Why is it that wherever we choose to stay we are on the map edge or fold!)

If you choose to arrive by train, our nearest station is Caersws (4.6 miles) with direct services from Birmingham, Shrewsbury, Aberystwyth & Pwllheli. Connections from London, Manchester, Edinburgh & Glasgow. The station is approximately 25 minute cycle ride, or ask us and we'll try & collect you. We have dark skies and on a clear night you'll have a great view of the stars from your raised deck. Access: the lodge is raised and on a single level. A short concrete path leads from the parking area to 4 steps that take you to a raised deck and the front door. The internal doors are narrow and may not be suitable for wheelchair users. Pets: Although we do not allow pets at present, we can introduce you to our neighbour who has pet friendly accommodation. Smoking is not permitted. We do not have facilities for BBQs at the present time. Please do not use disposable BBQs.

Ideal for walking Mid Wales, Rose Cottage is peaceful and relaxing, set in a wildlife haven on a site of Special Scientific Interest and opposite a nature reserve. Close to Glyndwr's Way and the Offa's Dyke path it sits overlooking stunning countryside and the river Teme. A dedicated glazed garden room, designed to observe the copious wildlife, is warm winter and summer and has french windows opening out on to the balcony; as well as a patio and garden. Rose Cottage is snug with both central heating and a wood burning stove. It sleeps 4 in one twin and one double room, (cot available if required) There is also a lounge and very well equipped kitchen with all modern appliances. The bathroom has both shower and bath. Linen and basic food items provided, (the owners will provide groceries to order) Secure shed for bikes attached to cottage.Excellent local pub food and a local shop can all be found within 2 miles of the cottage. Local tourist information, maps and walks as well as planned days out can be found in the cottage. Books, games, TV with DVD and VHS as well as WiFi are available.

Cwmbiga is half a mile from the Glyndwr's Way: between Llanidloes and Dylife.   If you would like to walk beyond Cwmbiga in order to shorten the walk to Machynlleth the day after you stay with us, we will happly pick you up from / return you to Dylife.  We have an information sheet which explains all: please contact us for a copy.We have two 4* self-catering cottages, each of which sleep 7. We offer a small party discount of 20% for groups of 1-4 people. The price includes homemade cake and fresh eggs from our chickens! Each cottage has a washing machine and we have a drying room for wet kit. We also offer packed lunches and pre-prepared frozen evening meals made in our farmhouse if you're too tired to cook! We're also licenced so can provide a variety of local beers and ciders, as well as wine.We're happy to arrange baggage transfer and other services for walkers. We're pet friendly too - dogs are welcome in the cottages and we have grazing for horses - please discuss when booking.  

Rose Cottage is a 2 bedroomed cottage which sleeps up to four people. Close to Glyndwr's Way and to Offa's Dyke Path it is a great base for walking, and also for watching the abundant local wildlife.

AA 4 star Cefnsuran accommodation in our secluded farm valley right on the national trail of Glyndwr’s Way close to Offas Dyke in Knighton. We have 2 lodges with hot tubs & a cosy stone cottage with log fire. Plus a large gamesroom with full size snooker table, table tennis, darts board, table top football & pool table. All the accommodation sleep 4, plus sky, dvd, separate stereo system and a fully equip kitchen with seperate fridge and freezer. All bedding, towels, electric and heating are included. Cefn-nant lodge is the most private lodge, with a secluded hot tub 100m from the nearest lodge. Access to the hot tub is via french doors onto a large open decking area, where you can relax in the hot tub and take it the great views of the lake and surrounding hills. Deck chairs are provided. The lodge sleeps 4max with a double room with ensuite double ended bath and wc, and a twin room with a large shower ensuite and wc. The Wainhouse cottage is a cosy 15thc stone cottage with loads of character, exposed oak beams and log fire stove. You have a twin ensuite with shower and a double with ensuite bath, an open plan kitchen and lounge area, your own garden area with great views and seating .Only the cottage has Wi-Fi. Just a short stroll from the games room. Suran-y-coed lodge with great views of the open hills and listen to the birds sing. Plus the warm bubbles of your own private hot tub to relax in. This lodge is ideal for families with an enclosed garden and a small stream in which to splash around or build your own dam. Upstairs you have a twin room and a double en-suite with bath & wc. Downstairs you havea separate shower room & wc, an open plan lounge separate dining and kitchen areas, which open out on to a covered decking area with seating.

MADOG'S WELLS:Madog's Wells is situated in eight acres of beautiful countryside with woodland walks all around, plenty of wildlife and is ideal for bird-watching, walking or touring Mid Wales. You can watch the birds from your breakfast table.We have three cottages;Wren's Nest - Sleeps 3 - 1 double and 1 single bedrooms, lounge/diner/kitchenette and a wet room.  Calor gas cooker, electric fire and oil-fired water heater, plug in radiators in the bedrooms.  The wet-room has an electric wall heater.  The lounge has comfortable seating for 3, fold-down dining table and chairs, TV with Sky Freesat. and DVD player.Blackbird Cottage - Sleeps 6 - 1 double, 2 twin-bedded rooms.  Very spacious cottage, large well equipped kitchen/diner (calor gas hobs and electric oven) and the lounge has 2 three-seater settees and an armchair,  a TV with Sky Freesat, DVD Player, hifi stereo system.  The wet-room has lots of room and there is a separate toilet with wash hand basin in case someone is too long in the shower!  Oil-fired central heating. Swallow Cottage - Sleeps 6 - 1 superking, 2 twin-bedded rooms.  This cottage is very spacious and has a large well-equipped kitchen/diner,calor gas cooker) the lounge seats 7 comfortably, 2 three seater settees and an arm chair, TV with Sky Freesat, hifi system, DVD player.  There is a private balcony from the lounge which catches the morning sun, ideal for breakfast, coffee break or lunch al fresco.  The large wet-room also contains a bath with various grab rails around it, along with a separate toilet with wash hand basin. The Byre is a retro styled cottage, converted from the old cow shed. Sitting in the glorious Welsh countryside with easy access to Snowdonia, Glyndwrs way, Offers Dyke and Lake Vyrnwy. Rural but not isolated pub and shop are 1/2 mile away. The stars at night are amazing. The Brye has a mezzanine bedroom, large shower room, fully equipped kitchen open to the living room diner. Small but perfectly formed. Dog friendly (2 medium dogs max – unless by agreement) and suitable for 2 adults and baby. With a 70s vibe, the Byre is cosy and yet light. Great views through the main window to feast your eyes upon whilst eating. Sky TV for those nights in, great WiFi in case you need to work. Guests have full sole access to the whole cottage and the front patio garden (this area occasionally used for access, postman etc). Free parking on site. Shared access to the 1 acre back garden, however please keep dogs under control as we have free roaming chickens and cats and our dogs are often loose outside. Please don’t let your dog dig, pick up dog poop, and keep dogs off the furniture. The Byre is a no smoking property.
