SDW Cleared following illegal rave

28th May 2014

South Downs Way staff and volunteers from the South Downs National Park Authority along with National Trust staff, volunteers and members of the public joined forces to clear tons of rubbish from the South Downs Way at Devils Dyke today (Wednesday 28th May). The iconic National Trust owned site was inundated by an estimated 2000 people attending an illegal rave over the bank holiday weekend. Following a call to arms nearly 100 people came out to help clear the rubbish and restore the site to it's original beauty. The collected rubbish was even sorted into plastics, cans, glass and general rubbish for collection and recycling by Mid Sussex District Council. It was definitely a case of many hands make light work. Thank you to everybody who helped. It is now back to the much loved landscape we expect.
