The Neighbourhood
A stunning area of West Sussex. Houghton is a hamlet in the South Downs National Park making it perfect for hikers and cyclists keen to complete the breath-taking 100 mile stretch of national trail running from Winchester to Eastbourne. It is on the River Arun, where it has a bridge to a rural part of Amberley, 3 miles (5 km) north of Arundel. The Monarch’s Way long-distance footpath (which follows Charles’s supposed route from Worcester to Shoreham-by-Sea) descends from the Downs to the west into the village, before heading south along the river towards Arundel.
Getting Around
There are no pavements in Houghton so guests need to be mindful of this when walking along road routes. We provide a head torch for guests to use during their stay. Amberley Railway Station is an easy 1 mile walk along the river but in the winter months the route is muddy so please bring suitable footwear. Pulborough and Arundel Railway Station are both approx. 5 miles. All stations are served by a direct train line from London Victoria which takes approx 1.5hrs.
