The Red Lion is in Newbrough 4.5 miles from one of UNESCO World Heritage Sites Hadrian's Wall in Northumberland. Newbrough is a quiet and pretty village which lies on the north bank of the South Tyne river about 5 miles (8km) west of Hexham.

The pub, of which is one of Newbrough's oldest buildings, a hostelry dating back to 1190's is on the Stanegate Roman road, built in A.D. 71, runs from east to west and formed the original northern frontier before the building of Hadrian's wall.

The Red Lion has been brought back into the 21st Century with all the charm of a country-side bed and breakfast.  A spacious area to drink, with its original wood and stonework, open log fires and comfortable chairs.  Our bar has locally sourced ales and our wine comes from all over the world.  The Red Lion prides itself on providing very high quality, delicious food.  The menu is seasonal, and the produce is locally sourced with home grown vegetables. Freshly cooked with a twist.

We have 6 ensuite letting bedrooms and can accommodate 14 people.  We have one family room which can accommodation 2 adults and 2 children,1 double/single, 1 king-size and 3 rooms which can be either twins or doubles. (Our beds can be linked together to create doubles)

We have our very own heritage centre called the Stanegate Room with takes a look back in time at what our village was like many years ago.

The Red Lion is ideally situated on the National Cycle Network, with the popular Route 72 passing directly in front of the pub and the Sandstone Way.  This can provide a welcome and refreshing break for weary cyclists.  There are also a several other cycle routes around the area as well as a reliable rail network linking various routes around the country.  We can provide secure bike storage, maps, packed lunches available on request and laundry facilities. Newbrough lies between A69 and the Military road.  Travelling from the east and Newcastle along the A69 turn off right at the west end of Hexham where it is sign posted for Warden, Fourstones, Newbrough and the Red Lion is situated in the centre of Newbrough and is unmissable.

Travelling from the west and Carlisle along the A69 turn off left into Haydon Bridge, turn left in the centre of Haydon Bridge then turn right over the railway crossing where it is sign posted Newbrough and Fourstones and as you reach the T-junction take the left past Newbrough First School and we are on the right-hand side in the centre of the village.

Northumberland is a wonderful county with lots to see and do.  We are ideally situated for walking Hadrian's wall path national trail and cycling Hadrian's cycleway, or why not visit the coast with it's wonderful castles, take a trip to the Farne Islands with Billy Shiel's boat or go on a fishing trip with Allan Dawson all available from the harbour in Seahouses.
