Hackpen Hill chalk horse was cut by a local parish clerk in 1838 to commemorate Queen Victoria's coronation. It is one of two chalk horses along The Ridgeway, the other being the prehistoric Uffington chalk horse in Oxfordshire, and one of nine chalk horses in Wiltshire.
The chalk horse near Broad Hinton is on the side of Hackpen Hill where it is best viewed from a distance on the road below. A public footpath cuts across the field from The Ridgeway, making it possible to view the horse close-up with a short detour off the Trail. The White Horse Trail (walking trail) encompassing all nine Wiltshire chalk horses follows The Ridgeway past Hackpen Hill chalk horse.
The field is often grazed by horses and the land is under private ownership.
Car parking is almost adjacent on The Ridgeway.
