If you walk or ride the inland bridleway route of the South Downs Way you will pass over the head of the Long Man of Wilmington and many never know it! Take a few moments to stop at the top of Windover Hill (or better still detour along the bridleway running below the long man) and go down the northern escarpment to see Europes largest chalk figure of a human at 235ft tall! No one knows how old the figure is or whether the poles were tools, what is known is that he or it existing before 1710 when he appeared on a map of that date. The site is now managed by the Sussex Past.
