This is the eleventh long distance trail completed by my wife and myself. We found it to be a demanding trail, but did walk it in appalling weather with almost continous gales, rain hail and sleet, early in the year.We took fourteen days, including a couple of half days treating it as a holiday, not a race. It's the best "waymarked" trail we have walked, and full credit to Rob Dingle the trail officer. There's a lot of new gates replacing the styles to make the walk easier. It covers a wide variety of terrain including farmland and mountains, and I think would be very pretty with the summer flowers etc. It's a quiet national trail compared to others, with fewer walkers, and an interesting part of the country away from the usual "honeypots " of Cumbria etc. It's quite an isolated part of the UK which was unusual and nice ,and everyone was very friendlyThe pubs were great,as was the ale, and sensibly priced too.For the first time we used a company to arrange B&B and baggage services instead of doing it ourselves,as it was prooving awkward for us on this route. This was worth doing. We walked from North to South preferring to finish in Chepstow, and I would recommend this.
