South Downs Way Circular and Linear Walks & Rides

A lovely walk exploring one of England's most beautiful river valleys. This 6.4 mile / 10.3 km walk can be started from Alfriston village or Seven Sisters Country Park. This walk takes in the South Downs Way between Alfriston and Seven Sisters Country Park. Allow about 4.5 hours. Refreshments available at Alfriston, Litlington and Exceat (Seven Sisters Country park). Brighton & Hove buses route 12 & 13 stop ever 10 minutes at Exceat from either Brighton or Eastbourne.

A fantastic 11.5 mile / 17.7km circular route that is a great days walk or a stunning ride. This route takes in part of the South Downs Way between Amberley and Bignor Hill as well as part of the National Trust's Slindon Estate and part of the Monarch's Way. Allow 5 - 6 hours to walk or 2- 3 hours to ride. Refreshments are available at Houghton and Amberley.

A lovely 10 mile / 16 km circular walk taking in the South Downs Way between Amberley and Rackham Banks and the Downs to the south. This walk has stunning views over the Amberley brooks and the River Arun.

Allow 4.5 - 5.5 hours. Refreshments are available at Amberley.

There are regular bus and train services to Amberley.

A great short circular walk exploring Buriton and the South Downs Way above the village.

3 miles / 5km, allow 1.5 - 2 hours.

A lovely 8 miles / 13km walk around East Meon in Hampshire.

This route takes in the historic village of East Meon, unspoilt classic English countryside as will as the source of the River Meon, a crystal clear chalk stream.

A great circular walk from Eastbourne taking in the famous Beachy Head, Britains highest chalk cliff.

The walk is 5 miles / 8.1km and should take around 3.5 hours to walk. to the village of East Dean where bus services run every 10 minutes back t the start. An optional walking return route adds 2 miles/ 3.4 km.

Refreshments are available from Eastbourne and Beachy Head, Birling Gap and East Dean.

A lovely 14 miles / 22km circular route which can be walked or ridden. This route takes in the historic town of Lewes and it's stunning Downland. Allow 6 - 7 hours to walk or 3 - 4 hours to ride. There are some steep climbs, especially above Kingstone village. Refreshments are available at Lewes and Kingston

A stunning circular walk that takes in Birling Gap, Seven Sisters and Friston Forest.

This walk is just under 8 miles / 13km in length and should take about 6 hours to walk.

The walk can be started from public transport using bus route 12 / 13 stopping at Exceat (Sieven Sisters Country Park), East Dean Village or Birling Gap.

Parking is available at Seven Sisters Country Park, East Dean or Birling Gap.

Refreshments are available from Birling Gap, East Dean and Seven Sisters Country Park.

A circular walk starting at Southease taking in part of the Ouse Valley and part of the South Downs Way above Rodmell. 5.5 miles / 8.8 km. Allow 3 - 4 hours. Refreshments available at Rodmell and Southease (YHA cafe). Regular train services to Southease from Lewes or Seaford.

A cracking short ride or a longer day walk from Stanmer Park taking in Ditchling Beacon, the highest point on the South Downs Way. 9 miles / 14km. Allow 1 - 2 hours to ride or 4.5 - 5.5 to walk. Refreshments are available at Stanmer Park. An ice cream van can usually be found at Ditchling Beacon.

A 7 mile / 11.5km circular walk from the historic market village of Steyning along part of the South Downs Way and past the famous Chanctonbury Ring.

Allow 3 - 4 hours.
