A breath-taking coastal location with unbelievable views over the town and harbour, YHA Whitby is perfect for cheap family breaks and school trips. Situated 199 steps up from the cobbled quayside, the Youth Hostel is close to quirky seaside shops, Michelin starred restaurants and sleek cocktail bars.
The historic building itself is right next to the famous ruined Whitby Abbey which is free to explore for guests – just ask at reception on arrival. You’ll be staying right on the headland in fully refurbished accommodation inside the Grade 1 listed building Abbey House. If you’re looking for atmospheric, you don’t get more so than YHA Whitby; St Mary’s church and graveyard is opposite, made famous by Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
Walkers and cyclists will find plenty of places to explore in the Esk Valley and the wild North Yorkshire Moors for on-the-go activity breaks.
The Whitby and Captain Cook museums allow you to gain a bit of education on the area and the historic war museum of Eden Camp is only a 45 minute car journey away. In the summer the sandy beaches provide a perfect setting for the kids to play whilst you relax during your Yorkshire coastal break. Year round attractions mean that there is something to do no matter when you visit.
The games room offers you the chance to take on your friends or family in a table football or pool tournament – the perfect way to crown the holiday winner!
After your busy day exploring the town of Whitby, unwind in our licensed restaurant with a delicious meal. A self-catering kitchen is also available if you fancy bringing your own. There are also great places to eat in the town so indulge in some afternoon tea, have a drink at the local pub or scoff some fish and chips at the Magpie.
YHA members can enjoy free Wi-Fi in social areas at YHA Whitby!
