Charmouth became one of the iconic hunting grounds for fossil collectors after the first complete Ichyosaurus fossil was found by Mary Anning in 1811. It is now part of an extensive nature reserve and a key location for understanding some of the geology of the Jurassic Coastline. The Heritage Coast Centre tells you more about fossils and how to find them safely and without causing damage to the cliffs or beaches. Fossil-hunting walks can be also booked here.
