One of several viaducts on the Settle-Carlisle railway it has 11 arches, is 117ft high and 220 yds long. The viaduct is built of massive blocks of Dent "marble" - a dark limestone quarried locally this stone is of interest due to its wealth of fossils.

TheTrail, which follows Arten Gill Lane passes directly beneath the viaduct.  A major scheme of work was required to restore a 2.3km length of this old drovers road which prior to the work had suffered severe erosion, dropping to 2m deep in places between the stone walls.
