This old chalk pit, once used for local construction projects, has since been transformed into a ecologically diverse grasslands nature reserve boasting 10 species of orchid and 25 different types of butterfly. Additional to the fantastic range of flowers and butterflies, visitors may also encounter slow-worms, basking grass snakes and the Roman snail (the largest snail in Britain). The reserve is open all year round but is at it's most spectacular when the wildflowers burst into life and the butterflies begin to emerge in spring and summer.
Parking can be found 3/4 mile south of Aston Clinton, just south-west of the B489/B4009 junction. The reserve entrance can be found 50m along the unclassified road to St Leonards on the left, park on the hard verge. Alternatively, the reserve is a 1 mile walk (approximately) from the Ridgeway National Trail.
