As you walk along the Thames Path on the south side of the river between Barnes Railway Bridge and Hammersmith Bridge, look out for the information boards and the ways into the Leg o' Mutton nature reserve. In this former reservoir built in 1838 wildlife has taken over, with reeds growing in the shallows, trees breaking up the concrete walls, herons nesting on the rafts and a collection of wildfowl that competes with the nearby London Wetland Centre. The nature reserve is owned by Richmond-upon-Thames Borough Council. Find out more here: www.barnes-ca.org/leg-o-mutton-reservoir/
The Wildfowl and Wetland Centre is about a mile away, and Chiswick Eyot is on the other side of the river.
