'Boulder streams' of sarsen stones are the defining feature of these tranquil and sheltered valleys. The sarsen stones are of ecological interest for the lichens and mosses they support and they also have geological importance. A footpath links the Ridgeway National Trail to Piggledene and Lockeridge (roughly 2 miles walk) or roadside parking spaces can be found at Lockeridge Dene.
