Steel Rigg is one of the finest viewpoints along the high, central section of Hadrian's Wall.
With wheelchair access and a dry footpath from the carpark it gives you a view of the Wall perched on top of the mighty, north-facing crags of the Whin Sill geological feature which inspired the Emperor Hadrian's positioning of Rome's northern boundary in AD122. It is an excellent starting point for a walk eastwards along the National Trail to Housesteads Roman Fort, or west to the Wall's highest point at Whinshield. Both routes have breathtaking views of the landscape.
