Winchcombe is set in the heart of the beautiful Cotswolds. It has a timeless quality about it which makes it an attractive centre for walkers.

There is so much history attached to Winchcombe with a neolithic long barrow situated on a hilltop above Winchcombe, Spoonley Villa, a Roman villa discovered and excavated in 1882, pilgrims once visited the now destroyed Winchcombe Abbey, the notable St Peter’s Church, Sudeley Castle where the only English Queen is buried in private grounds.

Strolling along picturesque streets surrounded by cottages of golden yellow stone and hidden courtyard gardens it’s easy to allow yourself to daydream that you’ve stepped back in time.  The Cotswold Way National Trail passes along the High Street, taking walkers to Belas Knap long barrow and Cleeve Hill in one direction and Hailes Abbey, Stanton and Broadway in the other.

Known as the walking capital of the Cotswolds and with "Walkers are Welcome" status you can base yourself in Winchcombe to walk the Cotswold Way and several other long distance routes such as the Winchcombe WayWardens WayWindrush Way and Isbourne Way. The circular Gloucestershire Way also passes through finishing at Tewkesbury.

Winchcombe featured in in 2016 on the ITV series “Best walks with a view’ presented by Julia Bradbury.  More information on the linear walk undertaken by Julia can be found here https://www.winchcombewelcomeswalkers.com/walk-21-julia-bradbury-best-walk-view-walk-7-5-miles/
