Those wishing to connect Liverpool and the Wirral can use the Mersey Ferry between Pier Head and Seacombe, but when neither the ferry nor its replacement bus are running, a train can be taken between Liverpool James Street and Birkenhead's Hamilton Square stations. The Wirral Circular Trail links Birkenhead with Seacombe, where the ECP will continue its route in due course.
