Gap in trail - Esk Estuary, Ravenglass

There is a gap in the trail over the Esk Estuary, pending the development of a safe estuary crossing.

Do not rely on existing rights of way shown on the Ordnance Survey maps. The only foot crossing is the A595 which we do not consider suitable for public access. We recommend taking the coastal railway between Ravenglass and Bootle (Hycemoor) stations.

Don't be tempted to miss out Ravenglass completely, though - why not use the main trail (check tide times) and high tide route to create a circular walk around the village, exploring its foreshore, woodland, refreshment opportunities and of course the Roman remains at the Glannoventa fort.
