Pegwell Bay to Ramsgate

This stretch of the King Charles III England Coast Path starts at the far end of the Pegwell Bay Country Park nature reserve at Ebbsfleet roundabout. Pegwell Bay Country Par offers a welcome start to your walk with toilets and a lovely cafe. Stop for a while to explore the Green Flag Award-winning park before starting your walk.

The foreshore and mudflats of Pegwell are home to a huge variety of water birds and in the summer the grass is dotted with wildflowers. There is also a large seal colony that can be seen toward the mouth of the Stour River at low tide.

Don’t miss the Viking ship ‘Hugin’ a full-scale replica of a Viking ship that sailed to Denmark in 1949 to celebrate the 1500-year anniversary of the invasion of Britain by the Vikings. A set of hidden steps behind the Hugin ship leads down to the old hoverport now a nature reserve and a great place to hunt for fossils.

Pass through Pegwell  Village and stop at the window of the Belle Vue Tavern where there is an excellent display about the history of potted Pegwell shrimps.

Continue along West Cliff Promenade and visit the beautiful landmark of the Shrine of St Augustine, the personal church of renowned nineteenth-century architect Augustus Pugin.

You walk finishes at Ramsgate Obelisk; it’s easy to find at the Harbour Parade right outside the Royal Victoria Pavilion. Adjacent you’ll find toilets, cafes and of course the Ramsgate secret tunnels.
