The recommended route from Winchester Railway station to the SDW is to follow Station Road, drop down to Sussex Street and then follow Romsey Road down to the pedestrianised High Street, passed the Market Cross and on to King Alfred's Statue. Please note that High Street is pedestrianised and cyclists should dismount and walk though this section, however it is the most direct and easy to follow route. You can take the oppertunity to visis the Great Hall and Winchester Cathedral on route.
Cyclists that are confident on busy roads can cycle from the station down North Walls and Eastgate Street to reach King Alfred's Statue. This is the quickest route on bike but is a busy one way system.
