This route shows the simplest and one of the most direct routes on foot from Winchester railway station to the offciial start of the SDW at the Old City Mill.
On leaving the station turn right along Station Road and head towards Westgate Museum and The Great Hall. If time allows do go into The Great Hall and see 'The Round Table'. From Westgate head down hill along the High Street. Join the pedestrianised High Street and follow it all the way down the hill, passing the Market Cross and The Guild Hall and then the great Statue of King Alfred. From there its only a few metres to the River Itchen and The Old City Mill.
If time allows take a very short detour (turning right at the market cross) to visit Winchester Cathedral, The largest cathedral in Europe!
