Borwick Rails: Where can I walk?

England Coast Path

Borwick Rails: Where can I walk?

The huge slag bank in front of you hosts some extremely sensitive bird species, year-round.

The ringed plover, in particular, is virtually invisible and nests on shingle and gravel, like here.

This camouflage stops predators seeing them, but means we can’t either. As a result, nests are failing because we don’t realise we’re too close.

In winter, this area is also a vital refuge for migrating birds restoring their energy supplies.

To help these birds, there are no new Coastal Access rights beyond this fence. Please help our wildlife recover by keeping to the paths.

Thank you, and happy walking!
