An ancient stone cottage whose traditional exterior and rural setting belie its bold design and artistic pedigree. As anybody familiar with Walltown Byre, the sister property to Lowtown Cottage, will know, its owner Sabina Forwood is the queen of vibrant colours and playful interiors. Like her larger sibling, the two-bedroom Lowtown Cottage is packed with Sabina’s signature design touches: eye-popping colours, rich textures, eclectic artworks and big views of the surrounding Northumberland countryside. First impressions of Lowtown Cottage are misleading. A narrow track brings you through acres of rolling countryside right down to an unassuming stone cottage on the edge of the Vallum. Only the dainty yellow and green sheep statue, perched on a stone at the front of the property, hints at the surprises to come. As you approach the front door, you can glimpse a modern timber and glass extension on the west wall of the house before stepping into the converted farm cottage to discover - yellow. The entire ground floor of the cottage, comprising an open-plan kitchen, dining and sitting room and the new rear garden room, is resplendent in bright daffodil yellow. Tucked in one corner, a compact lapis blue kitchen contains everything required to rustle up delicious meals to serve at the dining table or nibbles to enjoy in the comfort of the cowhide armchairs by the inglenook fireplace. The garden room features floor-to-ceiling windows and French doors leading out to the patio, delivering both southerly and westerly views and making it the ideal spot from which to contemplate the untouched beauty of the surrounding countryside. The peace here is complete, broken only by the calls of curlews and plovers, and the occasional passing deer. Two vaulted en-suite bedrooms await discovery upstairs. Channel your inner Dutch master in one, where a vibrant floral print is daubed onto black wallpaper and continued in fabric adorning the blind and window seat cushions, before leading into a striking black painted bathroom. The second bedroom, dressed in striped apple green wallpaper complemented by a pink silk window seat, features a vast velvet bed flanked by bespoke Susi Bellamy lampshades and cushions. FIRST FLOOR Bedroom one with 3' twin beds, side table, dressing table, window seat. Hanging space and storage can be found in the in-built cupboard on the first floor landing. En suite shower room with large shower, heated towel rail, basin and WC. Bedroom two with king size bed, side tables, dressing table, armchair, window seat, in-built cupboard with hanging space. En suite bathroom with bath with shower over, heated towel rail, basin and WC. OUTSIDE There is a patio area to the front of the property with outdoor furniture for relaxation. To retain the natural ambience of this beautiful and secluded cottage, please note that the grass adjoining the patio is not cut. This is to protect and encourage the pollinators and other insects which support the wide variety of bird species which this area enjoys. During the winter, the area is occasionally grazed by sheep. The external photograph of the cottage was taken after this area had been grazed. PARKING There is private parking for up to three cars to the side of the property. BABIES & CHILDREN A travel cot and highchair are available on request. DOGS One dog is welcome at a charge of £25. A second dog will be considered on request. Dogs must be kept strictly downstairs and are not allowed on the furniture. The property is surrounded by a stone wall to the rear with wire fencing to the front of the property, however cannot be considered to be fully enclosed or dog-proofed. The area around Lowtown is farmland therefore dogs will require full supervision and should be kept on leads when walking in the immediate vicinity due to livestock GUEST AMENITIES Bed linen, towels and bathrobes are provided and a hairdryer is available. Please note that the water at Lowtown Cottage is fed from a private supply and in particularly hot and dry conditions, the water level in the well that supplies the cottage can drop and lead to temporary water shortages. If this occurs, water will be temporarily provided by a water bowser. All of the plumbing in the cottage will work satisfactorily and guests should not notice the difference, although it would be recommended that guests do not use this water for drinking. Bottled water will be supplied for this purpose. WI-FI & MOBILE COVERAGE Wi-Fi is available with good speeds of up to 20MB. Mobile coverage is reasonable. HEATING There is underfloor heating throughout the ground floor. There are thermostatically controlled radiators upstairs. There is an electric stove in the open plan living/kitchen area. GUEST PRIVACY The property is secluded, detached and not overlooked. The area sits in Hadrian’s Wall Country and as a result there are likely to be walkers passing through to the rear of the property on Walltown Crags. The front facing aspect looks over rolling Northumberland countryside with plentiful wildlife. ADDITIONAL ACCOMMODATION Finally, for guests looking to holiday together but enjoy their own space, Lowtown Cottage can be let in conjunction with Walltown Byre sleeping six, which benefits from generous reception spaces for larger parties and sits a short ten minute walk or just a few minutes drive from the property.

Stoneybeck is a beautiful 4 bedroomed cottage situated on the edge of the National Park.  Recently modernised to provide full gas central heating.  The property has a well- equipped large breakfasting kitchen and also separate dining room with large table. The lounge has a multi fuel burning stove.  There are 2 bathrooms, one up and one down. The garden is enclosed and secure bike store can be provided.  Opposite the property is the bus stop for the AD122 bus which is the main route for Hadrian's Wall and runs every hour.  We are also situated on the Hadrian's Cycleway which is part of the National Cycle Network route 72.  Haltwhistle the Centre of Britain is 2 miles away.

Central heating keeps the cottage cosy, but there is always a plentiful supply of logs to burn on the wood burning stove if you want the pleasures of a “real fire”. From the French windows, look out over the local Golf course at glorious views of Hadrian’s Wall country to the hills beyond, or watch our “feathered friends.”   The kitchen area has all the equipment you may need with gas cooker, fridge, microwave and washing machine with sufficient crockery, glassware and cooking utensils to prepare meals. There is also a good size freezer.   The spacious hallway leads to the shower room with large shower cubicle, WC, washbasin, heated towel rail and razor point.   A sunny enclosed courtyard to the front of the cottage provides parking space for your car. A patio area outside the French windows offers guests a perfect place for quiet relaxation on a summer’s evening or light the chiminea and stargaze if it’s cooler. There is also a lockable shed for your sole use, idea for bike storage or muddy boots!   The two bedrooms are a large double bedroom with a king size bed and a smaller bedroom with twin beds.  Both rooms have attractive bed linen and accessories and wonderful views from the windows.   You’ll instantly feel at home in our cosy cottage. Halstead Green is a 5 double/twin bedroom former farm house and barn in Calderdale West Yorkshire. The area includes the towns of Hebden Bridge and Todmorden . The area lies about 10 miles from Bronte country and the town of Howarth, famous for the Bronte parsonage museum where literary family lived.The cultural centre of Hebden Bridge with its many independent shops, cafes and cinema is about 2 miles away and a short bus ride and Todmorden, with its traditional market and famous town hall is about 4 miles away. The area boasts many historic buildings, from weavers cottages and rural inns to former mills, often associated with the area's long standing links to textile production. The surrounding countryside is highly accessible for walkers, horse riders and cyclists with wooded valleys, including the National Trust's Hardcastle Crags, dry stone wall enclosed fields and rugged moorland and reservoirs "on the tops", all on the doorstep. The Pennine Way passes within half a mile or so but there are many other footpaths, cycle routes and bridleways to exploreThe area lies between Manchester and Leeds .Halstead Green is in the hamlet of Colden, about two miles north-west of Hebden Bridge and near the historic village of Heptonstall. Land Farm open garden is located just along the lane. May's shop is a general grocer and off-license and just a few minutes walk from Halstead Green. The New Delight Inn is also in Colden, serving food and drink and also hosting campers and caravanners.Th village of Heptonstall is about 1 miles from Colden. The writers Ted Hughes and Sylvia Plath spent their early married life near the village. Sylvia Plath is buried in Heptonstall churchyard. The Ted Hughes Arvon Centre, ">Lumb Bank , is between Colden and Heptonstall, and the house which once belonged to them. Heptonstall is an impressive medieval village, with a myriad of weavers cottages an other ancient buildings, the most notable being the ruined church. Heptonstall has two pubs, The White Lion and The Crown Inn, a cafe and a post office, all close together towards the bottom of the road through the vilage, Smithwell Lane.There is a regular bus service to and from Hebden Bridge. From Hebden Bridge (or Todmorden) there are buses to the surrounding towns and villages and direct trains towards Manchester (about 1/2 hour) or Leeds (about 1 hour). The recently restored unique Grade I Listed Piece Hall in Halifax hosts a range of events year round and includes independent shops, galleries and restaurants. The area has been used for many film and television locations in recent years including Happy Valley, Last Tango in Halifax and Peterloo.

Swale View is a lovely cottage set in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales in the village of Low Row. Swale View was built in, roughly, 1750 and has been added to and upgraded periodically since then. And as such has a few features dating back a wee while and there are also some idiosyncrasies that you just don’t get in modern houses. Large Luxury Rural Retreat in the village of Low Row, close to the Punch Bowl Inn.We have 8 comfy bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, sitting room, dining room and snug all with open fires, a wet room near the east entrance with large boot room/cloak room/drying room leading off.  The house is an original Yorkshire Dales 'Long House' but has been extended over the generations by the Birbeck family, who added the front reception rooms in 1860. The estate was sold in 1978 and we completely refurbished the house in 2014, adding a "Small Dragon" to provide a super efficent heating and hot water system. We've kept loads of the properties quirky features and added some luxury features such as powerful and waterfall showers, and the essential roll top baths to relax soak away the aches and pains of the day.The kitchen is fully equiped and has an Aga cooker, dishwasher, microvawe etc. We are 5 minutes walk away from an excellent 'Eating Pub' and can provide breakfast baskets if required. Halstead Green is a 5 double/twin bedroom former farm house and barn in Calderdale West Yorkshire. The area includes the towns of Hebden Bridge and Todmorden . The area lies about 10 miles from Bronte country and the town of Howarth, famous for the Bronte parsonage museum where literary family lived.The cultural centre of Hebden Bridge with its many independent shops, cafes and cinema is about 2 miles away and a short bus ride and Todmorden, with its traditional market and famous town hall is about 4 miles away. The area boasts many historic buildings, from weavers cottages and rural inns to former mills, often associated with the area's long standing links to textile production. Heptonstall is an impressive medieval village, with a myriad of weavers cottages an other ancient buildings, the most notable being the ruined church. Heptonstall has two pubs, The White Lion and The Crown Inn, a cafe and a post office, all close together towards the bottom of the road through the vilage, Smithwell Lane.There is a regular bus service to and from Hebden Bridge. Swale View is a lovely cottage set in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales in the village of Low Row. Swale View was built in, roughly, 1750 and has been added to and upgraded periodically since then. And as such has a few features dating back a wee while and there are also some idiosyncrasies that you just don’t get in modern houses. Large Luxury Rural Retreat in the village of Low Row, close to the Punch Bowl Inn.We have 8 comfy bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, sitting room, dining room and snug all with open fires, a wet room near the east entrance with large boot room/cloak room/drying room leading off.  The house is an original Yorkshire Dales 'Long House' but has been extended over the generations by the Birbeck family, who added the front reception rooms in 1860. The estate was sold in 1978 and we completely refurbished the house in 2014, adding a "Small Dragon" to provide a super efficent heating and hot water system. We've kept loads of the properties quirky features and added some luxury features such as powerful and waterfall showers, and the essential roll top baths to relax soak away the aches and pains of the day.The kitchen is fully equiped and has an Aga cooker, dishwasher, microvawe etc. We are 5 minutes walk away from an excellent 'Eating Pub' and can provide breakfast baskets if required.
